As the movie industry leaped
into the unforgettable decade of the 70s, exploitation films started to get
hotter and heavier for lack of better words. The first mainstream porno movie
didn’t arrive until 1973 with DEEP THROAT, but major studios had already been
increasingly using nudity in the era of the new ratings systems. Then you had
independent films like 1971’s GINGER, a softcore, R-rated action film that would
no doubt get an NC-17 today. A big hit at drive-in theaters, it spawned two
sequels as well as a minor movie career for its star.

Ginger
McAllister is played by Cheri Caffaro, a tall, lanky bleach blonde of some
obvious appeal. Ginger is an independently wealthy young woman of no fixed
ability whose parents had just been killed in an accident. Given an assignment
in typical James Bond fashion (suitcase with weapons and all), she is hired by
private investigator Jason Varone (William Grannell), which is sort of like
working for Murray Slauter at the WJM newsroom. Ginger’s mission — to crack
down on a prostitution and drugs ring in a resort town in… New Jersey(!).
Here, a big drug deal is meeting two polite Hispanic guys in a dark warehouse,
and chewing them down to $600 (from $800) for a big bag of weed.

The leader of this ring is Rex
Halsey (Duane Tucker) an effeminate bastard with bad hair, bad clothes, and
thick leather neckwear. Halsey’s gang include a group of pretty young pros and a
no-nonsense black dude who takes out the oppression of his people on stuck-up
white women. Ginger infiltrates their group by performing an exotic dance at a
club for Halsey’s
pretty boy henchman. She helps a man-hating hooker by performing a lesbian act
on her, catfights another girl and ties her up with her own bikini, and later
knots a dude’s balls with sharp piano wires!

Caffaro can be described as sort
of the Caucasian equivalent of Pam Grier, with much less animal enthusiasm.
Ginger is nasty and aggressive, but Caffaro expresses this through the awful
delivery of her lines, as well as campy facial expressions that make her come
off as a comical vixen. The rest of the acting is also pretty lame, and the
production values resemble an early porno flick with some of the worst lighting
you’ll ever witness. The movie is low on action and many of the sequences drag
on too long. But it was a hit, and its themes of bondage made it memorable with
fans of kinkiness in cinema.

Themes
of bondage made it into the sequel, THE ABDUCTORS. As far as drive-in films go,
it starts off with a bang. We see two thugs escorting a naked blonde beauty to a
cell where she is left tied and gagged. Then, three cheerleaders (one is Jeramie
Rain from LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT) have their convertible’s tire shot and are
then stripped and kidnapped as well. Caffaro as Ginger is again hired by Varone
(Grannell) to investigate the vicinity of the abductions. This time she is given
an edible disk that gives off a radio signal within a 30-mile radius (much more
advanced technology than the previous film’s telephone in a briefcase).

Discovering that photos of all
the abductees ran in the paper prior to their kidnappings, Ginger gets the
attention of an advertising man (Richard Smedley, the zombie in BLOOD OF GHASTLY
HORROR) and interests him in giving publicity to a fashion model. The luscious
model is actually Carter Winston (Jennifer Brooks from THE ADULT VERSION OF &
HIDE), another detective working for Varone. Both Carter and Ginger fall hands
to the kidnappers
and face the same humiliation until their edible disks bring on Varone and the
cops, and they crack what turns out to be an operation that sells young women to
horny middle-aged businessmen!

THE ABDUCTORS is a step above
its predecessor in terms of budget and quality. There’s more action, the
villains are more interesting, and the editing is tighter. Even Caffaro seems
more confident in her character and in her acting as well. In a time where
political correctness had no meaning and a heroine could enjoy having sex with
her enemy only to cut off his manhood afterwards, the Ginger films provide some
decent after hour thrills.

Monterey Home Video has released
GINGER and THE ABDUCTORS on DVD separately. Unfortunately, they utilize their
old VHS masters so the transfers are so-so. First off all, they are full frame,
and both were obviously meant to be screened at 1.85:1.
There
is much dead space on the top of the screen, and judging from opening titles
that run off the screen, the sides lop off some picture information. The picture
quality on both is passable. Colors look ok, sometimes a bit soft, and some dark
scenes come off so badly that they’re hard to make out. The sound quality is
fine considering the limitations of the budget and the constant echoes of camera
equipment.

The only extras are photo
galleries and a Caffaro filmography that states she worked with Jayne Mansfield
in 1976–nearly a decade after the actresses death! By the way, I contacted
Monterey regarding a DVD of the third Ginger film, 1973’s GIRLS ARE FOR LOVING.
Despite being advertised in the inlay sheet of THE ABDUCTORS DVD, they say that
“There are no plans at present” and that endorsement was a “misprint.” Hopefully
if the first two sell well they’ll reconsider.

Here is where you can order all
three……

Helpless Heroines

Damsel in DistressThe subject of the damsel in distress or persecuted maiden is a classic theme in world literature, art and film.

She is almost inevitably a young, nubile woman, who has been placed in a dire predicament by a villain or a monster and who requires a hero to dash to her rescue.

She has became a stock character of fiction, particularly of melodrama.

Theterm “damsel”, similar to French Mademoiselle – a completely archaic term, not used in contemporary English except for effect or in expressions such as this – testifies to its origin with the knight errant of Medieval songs and tales, who regarded the saving of such women an essential part of his raison d’etre.

Some claim the popularity of the damsel in distress is perhaps in large measure because her predicaments sometimes contain hints of BDSM fantasy

The helplessness of the damsel in distress, who can be portrayed as foolish and ineffectual to the point of naïvete, along with her need for others to rescue her, has made the stereotype the target of feminist criticism. But the critics miss the simple fact that it is FANTASY….. as was so clearly revealed in the classic “The Perils of Gwendoline”.The Perils of Gwendoline (aka The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak, aka Gwendoline ) is a french film named GWENDOLINE directed by Just Jaeckin with Tawny Kitaen (Gwendoline) ,Brent Huff and Zabou. It was made in 1983. The story is simple : a young woman and her friend (beth) start a search to find her father who disappear in Orient and will find him with the help of an adventurer after some difficult sitiations in the city, the jungle, the desert and a lost city of women warriors. It was supposed to be an HOMMAGE to John Willie‘s Gwendoline adventures so it include some nudity and fetishism. For more images, pictures and movies visit

Our kind of Bondage is neither sadistic or painful

What is most discouraging are the prevailing social misconceptions concerning bondage, at least the benevolent, romantic type of bondage that we produce and enjoy.

For the unenlightened, what we represent and advocate really needs to be clarified. In that spirit, the following general explanation is at least a start.

It has never been nor will it ever be our purpose to depict women as mere subordinates to men. These pictures and
articles are not about that. The materials we produce are carefully and, we think, obviously designed for men and
women to whom bondage is an important mutual diversion, a recreational and benevolent experience, a fantasy with a
happy ending, a good-natured game in which everybody wins.

It is not our intention to offend or demean or abuse or exploit or disadvantage, be aggressive against, or cause even the slightest pain to our models, or to suggest that such is occurring to the ladies they are portraying. We do not characterize victims; we characterize lovers who are mutally exciting and pleasurable — the bondage can be for the sake of sexual teasing or foreplay; or the acting out of a benign rescue fantasy with slightly juvenile undertones; or just the sweet and secret simple sharing of a very special physical intimacy between caring persons. Whichever of these it is, we have characterized it on our pages as “Love Bondage”.

While we cannot police the motives and psyches of our customers, we can and do shape our materials for completely
benevolent natures only — either the adult who was imprinted during adolescence by the thrilling and heroic
adventure story rescue of a bound and gagged and ultimately loving female, or the male or female adult whose basic
nature identifies with the female in bondage and craves to personally experience those same offbeat sensations for
either deeply psychological reasons, or, to state this in the simplest possible terms, because it actually feels good, safe and comforting even. He or she is wrapped tightly and snugly, there is a feeling of being protected, and the rope becomes a surrogate for the protective lover’s arms. It is to please and satisfy those two natures, and they alone, that we create these visual fantasies.

Conversely, those persons in search of darker, less pleasant bondage themes must look elsewhere, for there is
really nothing for them here. Our materials are just not for people who enjoy scenes of human mistreatment. If such
people do show up on our mailing lists from time to time, they certainly have no reason to linger, since what they
are seeking is probably the exact spiritual opposite of what we have to offer.

Good drama does not exist without conflict, and there will necessarily be the blending of bondage with actual
danger in some of the text fiction that we publish. But these situations will be so obviously farfetched or tongue
-in-cheek that they are clearly not to be taken any more seriously than a comparable paperback tale or television
episode containing the same elements. But in all of the photos that we present, be they from contributors or our
own associates, the woman is there willingly, even gladly, and for her own reasons. Were she not, we would not
publish the picture.

Therefore, the bondage that is dramatized here is an essentially gentle act used by lovers to intensify their
physical and spiritual closeness. She gets to belong utterly to someone she loves, and to be adored for what he
perceives as the prettiness of her dependency on him. She has surrendered for him that part of her independence she
doesn’t want. They are fortune-blessed soulmates, theirs is completely a mutual act of trust, love, appreciation of
themselves and each other. And the readers who look on perceive her bondage as physically and spiritually pleasing
to her — she knows that it has more to do with being wanted than abused. Were that not the case, we would
ourselves be offended.

Our bondage has absolutely nothing to do with demeaning anyone. It is totally and utterly a bilateral activity,
and, were it not, we wouldn’t have anything to do with it.

Here is an example of a movie of a beautiful woman:in “Bondage of a Secretary in Bondage Fantasy.”

History of Bondage in American Culture

Bondage received a positive (if brief) treatment in The Joy of Sex, a mainstream sex manual popular in the 1970s. The publication of Madonna‘s book, Sex, which included photographs of bound nudes, did a great deal to improve public awareness and acceptance of bondage.

By the 1990s, references to bondage could be found in mainstream prime-time television series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where equipment such as handcuffs or collars and concepts such as the safeword were included as a matter of course.

There were many other influences that helped move bondage images from the adult movie theaters to more main stream America culture. I will mention them and their influences in another article.

An example of a beautiful woman in Erotic Bondage

Gagged Girl DrawingHere is one example of thousands I have in my collection of the beauty of erotic bondage movies.

My secretary in Bondage.

There is no doubt that interest in Bondage is on the rise.

Early examples of bondage erotica include:

Recent changes:

  • Steady growth in quantity and production values of niche producers
  • Increasing prevalence and acceptance of bondage in more mainstream publications (e.g. Penthouse)
  • The rise of the Internet as a distribution medium

For an example my personal website is devoted to the subject of beautiful women bound and gagged in Bondage. There are many many others.

Studies1 of men’s sexual fantasies have shown that the fantasy of being bound during intercourse is second in frequency only to the basic fantasy of sex with a voluptuous nude woman. Consequently, it should be no surprise that bondage themes have been present in pornography for some time.

Bondage pornography for heterosexual men almost overwhelmingly depicts bound women, rather than bound men, despite the most common fantasy in both sexes being one of being bound.
